I don’t hate Damon at all. I do actually like him (I love him and Stefan when they are being brothers and I adore the Defan scenes) but you are right in regards to the rest of the confession. i feel like Damon gets all of this character growth, but then he reverts back to his old ways. Damon just reminds me so much of Klaus in the sense that he is reckless, impulsive and just doesn’t learn and grow. He keeps repeating the same mistakes over and over. Another thing that I hate is that Damon never really learns from his mistakes. He shows no enlightenment and even when he does, he pretends to for someone else (i.e. Elena). I wish Damon would just forget about Elena and just focus on soul searching and enlightenment, because he really does need it. Damon is never going to grow as an individual unless he starts will digging deep inside of himself. Damon needs to stop looking for love and acceptance on the outside (Elena, Katherine) and focus on accepting and loving himself first. If he doesn’t, Damon will never progress as an individual and he will never learn or understand the concept of loving other people. Damon can’t love anyone, because he doesn’t understand the concept of love himself. What I think is that Damon doesn’t need a woman, I think deep down, Damon just needs his brother. Stefan is the key to Damon’s enlightenment and humanity, not Elena.
